David Ridgway
b. Seattle, Washington -1949
David Ridgway' is currently interested in painting small to medium scale oils often done with expressive brushwork and high saturation color. Ridgway painted in the studio for many years and continues to when the weather dictates, but also enjoys working outside with the changing light and sense of immediacy it demands. Many of his paintings continue to investigate the relationship between man and the rural and sub rural landscape. Architectural and atmospheric elements are prominent.
Occasionally he paints in watercolor, pastel and on the Macintosh computer with a graphics pad. He currently resides on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State.
Ridgway is primarily a self-taught artist. He attended the University of Maine where he studied art and philosophy. Artists with whom he has studied include Lau Chun, Honolulu; Richard Nelson, Maui; Betsey Heiusler, Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore; Sharon Yates, Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Charles Sovek, Connecticut; Charles Movalli, Gloucester.
Ridgway is an award-winning artist whose work is represented in public, corporate and private collections from Japan to England.
